James grew up in Kent, near London. He graduated in 2017 from Imperial College London with a BS in Physics. For his Master’s project, he worked on optical trapping for ultrashort laser experiments with Roland Smith. He joined RSL in summer 2017 and has since worked on a variety of experimental projects, including remote entanglement, two-qubit gates and quantum error correction. In his spare time he enjoys hiking, camping, bird watching and playing guitar.
